Synopsis

This film is a mosaic of Prince Diponegoro’s journey (1785-1855) after his treacherous arrest in Magelang on Sunday, March 28th, 1830. He was brought to Batavia via Semarang, a journey on the sea that he had never done before, while he was suffering from malaria. He was accompanied by his immediate family (wife, sister, and brother-in-law) and 16 followers. For 26 days at the Batavia City Hall (Stadhuis), the Prince had to wait for the Dutch-Indian government’s decision on his fate as a political prisoner.

Director

Gata Mahardika
Gata Mahardika has been in art, film and animation since 2012. He started Studio Chulat in 2015 focusing on 2D animation and visual storytelling.

In 2016, he was involved in the production of "Half a Life" as an animator. The film was screened at MoMA, New York. In 2018, he was also involved in “Rust en Orde,” which was screened at the Center for Fine Arts, Belgium, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul. He was also involved in “Another Dream,” an XR documentary in 2019 as the head of 2D animation which won the Gouden Kalf at the Dutch Film Festival.
